The owner of this weekend house is a friend and long time energy efficiency enthusiast. Building his dream house allowed him to test many unique energy features including a solar warm air collector, a foundation based heat exchanger and a 1kW wind turbine. As an all electric house with no access to natural gas, it uses less than one watt per square foot of installed heating power, primarily off-peak heating of warm water. Extensive data logging of temperatures and humidity since January 2007 as well as user experiences show us that the energy approach works. It is a beautiful, comfortable home year round. CTI provided engineering support and energy auditing.
